How Plankmate and the Plankmate Field phone app handle information. Last updated October 20, 2026.

Who This Is About

Plankmate is a service that companies use to run their work: scheduling, dispatch, quotes, invoices, projects and more. The Plankmate Field app is for a company's technicians. The company that uses Plankmate (your employer, or the company you work for) decides what goes into its own Plankmate account, who has a login and what they can do. Plankmate stores and handles that information on the company's behalf.

For questions about your own information, ask your company first. You can also write to us at hello@plankmate.com.

What the App Handles

  • Your Account. Your name, work email address, role and sign-in. Your password is stored in a protected form that cannot be read back.
  • The Work You Record. Visits and their status, arrival and departure times, notes, checklists, parts used, equipment, hours, inspections, observations, incident reports, deliveries, extra work, notes on drawings, daily logs and punch lists. When a customer approves an estimate or signs for work, the app keeps the signature drawn on the screen and the name typed with it. The same goes for your own signature when you sign.
  • Photos. The pictures you take in the app or choose from your photo library to add to a job. The app can only see the pictures you choose.
  • Barcodes. The camera reads barcodes and QR codes on parts, tools and equipment. The camera pictures are not saved.
  • Notifications. If you turn notifications on, the app stores an address for your phone so the service can reach it, and the text of a notification (for example, that a visit was given to you) passes through Expo's notification service and Apple or Google to get there.
  • Saved on Your Phone. So the app keeps working with no signal, it keeps a copy of the visits and job details you have looked at, and any work you did without a signal that has not been sent yet, in storage only the app can read. Signing out removes the saved copy.

Your Location

The app asks for your location only for these features, and works without it.

  • Arriving and Leaving. When you start a visit, arrive, leave or finish and the company records arrival and departure, the app sends your position at that moment, so the company can record the time and how far you were from the job site.
  • Share My Location. This is off until you turn it on under More. While it is on, your phone reports where you are about once a minute or every 50 metres, even when the app is closed, so your office can see you on its map. Only your latest position is kept. Turning it off, or signing out, stops the reporting and deletes the position.

You can take location permission away at any time in your phone's settings.

Face and Fingerprint Unlock

If you choose to unlock the app with Face ID, Touch ID or a fingerprint, your phone does the checking. The app is told only whether it worked, and never receives your face or fingerprint.

How Information Is Used

Only to run Plankmate for the company: to show you your visits, record what was done, tell your office where things stand, and let the company invoice and manage its work. We do not sell personal information, we do not show advertising, and the app does not track you across other apps or websites. The app has no advertising or analytics tools in it.

Who Can See It

  • The owners and dispatchers of your company, and other people in it as your company allows.
  • The company's customers, but only what the company chooses to share with them (for example, a note marked to be shared, or an estimate they are asked to approve).
  • People at Plankmate, only as needed to run and support the service.

Other Services Involved

  • Maps. Job site addresses are sent to OpenStreetMap's address search to find where they are on the map.
  • Notifications. Expo's notification service, and Apple and Google, deliver notifications to your phone.
  • Email. Emails the service sends, such as receipts and reminders, go through our email provider.
  • Card Payments. If your company takes card payments, Stripe handles them. The app does not collect card numbers.

Keeping and Deleting Information

The company's information is kept while the company has a Plankmate account, and the company can ask for it to be deleted. A company can switch off a technician's login at any time. To ask about your own information, contact your company or write to hello@plankmate.com.

Security

The app talks to Plankmate over an encrypted connection. Your sign-in is kept in your phone's secure storage. Each company's information is kept separate from every other company's.

Children

Plankmate is for working adults. It is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so here and change the date at the top.
